BSA High Adventure Sea Base Application

Beginning the second week of June, 2009, the high seas will be Indian Waters, too! That’s when the Council is planning to send several crews to the BSA High Adventure Sea Base in the Florida Keys.

Preliminary Application

Although the planning is far from final, here are the details:

  • Council crews will be going on the Coral Reef Sailing adventure – a 35-40’ boat sailing from Islamorada to Key West and back for 7 days.   It is a 10 day trip including all travel.
  • Each crew will be 8 members, including 2 adult leaders. Click here to open and print the application
  • Scouts and Venturers may go even if no one else from their unit is planning to go or  units can fill an entire crew.
  • Transportation will be by 12-passenger vans.
  • The fee will include all food, transportation, touring stops, crew t-shirt, crew photo, accommodations on the road, accident insurance, snorkel gear, fishing gear and Sea Base program fee.
  • The entire program fee is $1190, but a deposit of $150.00 per person is all that is needed to hold your slot.  All fees are non-refundable, but are transferable. A payment schedule will be established for the balance and it will be spread over 2008 and 2009.
  • Scouts/Venturers must be 14 years old by September 1, 2009.
  • All participants must be able to pass the swimmer test in a strong manner. Sea Base enforces this.
  • All participants must provide a Class 3 physical prior to departure and be in good physical condition.  This is high adventure and Sea Base enforces this.
  • There will be a couple of planning meetings for adult leaders before crews depart.
  • There will be a one day event for crew members to get to know one another, get info for the trip and ask questions.
  • There is no special equipment needed.  Just as in backpacking  - less is more desirable.

The council level Sea Base lottery results will not be known until late November or early December, but we have asked for cruise times which allow us to depart Columbia the second week of June, 2009. The Sea Base website is www.BSASeaBase.org or you can contact the Scout Service Center at (803)750-9868 for more information.

Sign up begins immediately. Complete and return the preliminary application.  See you on the high seas!
